Recognition for Research

Shine a Spotlight on Your Research

Fellowships and awards are great ways to gain recognition for research achievement. You can apply for these opportunities at Cornell, but don't forget to explore recognition through state or national associations as well.

Recognition Opportunities

There are campus-wide and college-based awards for student researchers. To learn more about options in your college, contact your college’s Cornell Undergraduate Research Advisor.

The Computing Research Association (CRA) Outstanding Researcher Awards

The CRA Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Awards program recognizes undergraduate students in North American colleges and universities who show outstanding potential in an area of computing research. This opportunity is administered by the Bowers College of Computing & Information Sciences, but students from any college/school may be considered.

McNair Scholars Program

The federally-funded Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program is designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are first-generation college students with financial need who have demonstrated strong academic potential.

Mellon Mays Program

The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program was established in 1988 and is committed to broadening the range of scholarly perspectives in the US academy, with a focus on the humanities and the humanistic social sciences. This opportunity is available to Arts & Sciences students; designated fields include Anthropology, Area Studies, Classics, History, History of Art, languages other than English, Linguistics, Literature, Musicology, Performing and Media Arts, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Sociology.

OADI Research Scholars Program

The OADI Research Scholars Program provides first-year students in the Pre-Collegiate Summer Scholars Program (PSSP) an opportunity to learn about the research process in a supportive environment. Although opportunities are not guaranteed, students will be well positioned as highly-competitive applicants for an enriching summer research project with a Cornell faculty member.

Prestigious Fellowships

Cornell Career Services lists prestigious fellowships for students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Rawlings Cornell Presidential Research Scholars

The Hunter R. Rawlings III Cornell Presidential Research Scholars (RCPRS) program supports a select group of highly motivated undergraduate students, from all colleges and schools at Cornell, as well as many disciplines, by promoting and providing resources for sustained engagement in research and scholarly study in close relationship with faculty and other mentors.

Graduating with Honors

Beginning with the December 2026 conferral date, Latin honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude) are based solely on final cumulative undergraduate GPA. If you have questions about the process for your college or school, please reach out to your College Undergraduate Research Advisor. Honors presentations are delivered by most students accepted into honors programs.
